Los Angeles County Fire Department
The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) provides emergency response, fire prevention, wildfire preparedness, public education, and other services within its service area.
Emergency: Call 911. Do not report an emergency through email, an online inquiry, or this website.
Non-emergency department business: Call 323-881-2411 or use the official contact page. For incident or patient care records, contact the Subpoena and Records Office at 323-267-7217.
Independent, non-government information: This website is not affiliated with the Fire Department. We do not dispatch emergency services, accept official records requests, issue permits, or schedule inspections.
Service Area and Fire Stations
LACoFD serves unincorporated Los Angeles County and multiple incorporated cities. Its service area also includes the City of La Habra in Orange County. It does not provide every local fire service throughout Los Angeles County; confirm the responsible department for the property or incident involved.
The Emergency Operations overview describes firefighting, emergency medical services, dispatch, air and wildland operations, lifeguards, urban search and rescue, hazardous materials response, and other specialized functions.
Find a Station or Local Division
Use the official fire station locator to search for a nearby station. A station's proximity does not by itself establish which office handles a permit, inspection, or records request.
The department contact page also provides a “Find Your Local Assistant Fire Chief” feature showing the communities covered by its divisions.

Records and Subpoenas
The Risk Management Division's Subpoena and Records Office handles requests for department records, including incident reports and patient care reports. Use the official records instructions to obtain the current request form and confirm submission requirements.
How to Request Records
- Download and complete the department's Information Request Form.
- Provide at least the incident date, location, and approximate time.
- Follow the form's instructions for any additional information or supporting documentation required for the requested record.
- Include a check or money order payable to “County of Los Angeles Fire Department.”
- Submit the materials by mail or in person to the Subpoena and Records Office.
Do not assume every requested record is available to every requester. Follow the requirements for the particular record, especially when requesting patient care information. The general department contact form does not replace the records request process.
Published Fees
| Record or service | Published fee |
|---|---|
| Patient care report or incident report | $15 |
| Arson investigative report | $20 |
| 9-1-1 call | $20 |
| Deposition or witness fees — civilian personnel | $35 |
| Deposition or witness fees — uniformed personnel | $275 |
Additional production fees may apply. Confirm the current charge and payment instructions with the office before submitting a request.
The department states that reports are generally available in approximately two weeks, depending on the incident date. This describes report availability and does not guarantee completion of an individual request within two weeks. The office also advises that a return telephone call may take up to three business days because of call volume.

Fire Prevention and Construction
The Fire Prevention Division handles fire safety inspections and plan review within its jurisdiction. Its regional offices are organized into North, Central, and East regions.
Regional services include new construction field inspections, annual business inspections, and minor plan checks involving buildings, processes, and fire extinguishing systems. Identify the property address and project type before selecting an office.
Plan Reviews and Forms
The Fire Prevention page provides EPIC-LA guides for:
- Fire land development.
- Building plan check.
- Fire alarm plan check.
- Fire sprinkler plan check.
It also provides the Plan Check Submittal Form and a Request for Modification or Alternate Materials and Methods Review.
For fire flow availability, Form 195 addresses single-family dwellings and Form 196 addresses properties other than single-family dwellings. Other resources cover high-piled combustible storage and cannabis facilities.
Use the current guide and forms for your project. Confirm jurisdiction, required approvals, fees, and inspection arrangements with the responsible office before submitting plans or starting work.
Fire Code and Residential Resources
The Fire Prevention page links to the County's Fire Code, Title 32, and AB-38 real estate defensible space inspection information.
The Community & Residential Resources page provides additional entry points for home hardening, defensible space, construction plan review, inspections, and community recovery.
Wildfire Preparedness
The department's Ready! Set! Go! wildfire action plan explains how to prepare a home and household before a wildfire. Its materials address defensible space, fire-resistant improvements, protection against flying embers, and evacuation preparation.
- Ready: Create and maintain defensible space and harden your home against flying embers.
- Set: Prepare your household and home ahead of time for the possibility of evacuation.
- Go: Follow evacuation guidance and take the steps described in the official action plan to leave safely.
Review the plan before an incident occurs. During an active emergency, use current instructions from the responsible public safety agencies; a preparedness brochure does not provide live evacuation status.
The Ready! Set! Go! page provides the downloadable brochure and links to defensible space, fuel modification, and inspection resources. For additional printed copies, contact the Public Information Office at 323-881-2411.
Earthquake, Flood, and Storm Resources
The department's Emergency & Disaster Preparedness Safety Tips collection includes:
- An Emergency Survival Guide.
- Earthquake preparedness information.
- A flood preparation plan.
- Storm safety and sandbag resources.
- Emergency contact information.
- Senior disaster safety materials.
- Emergency and fire safety tips.
Select the resource for the hazard and household needs involved. Check current agency notices for incident-specific conditions and service availability.
CERT Training
LACoFD offers free, FEMA-approved, 20-hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training to the communities it serves.
Trained emergency personnel teach basic disaster response skills, including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The course helps residents prepare to assist themselves, family members, neighbors, and coworkers when professional responders are not immediately available.
Use the registration link on the official CERT page to review available classes and enrollment instructions.
CERT volunteers do not work for LACoFD. Volunteers register through their respective cities, unincorporated areas, or local law enforcement agencies, and some participate in local authorities' disaster plans.
Specialized Permits
The department's Public Safety & Film Unit reviews applications involving filming, commercial still photography, annual fuel truck inspections, and special effects permits.
Use the Fees & Permits section of the official department website to locate the relevant service and current instructions.
For building, alarm, sprinkler, or land development reviews, use the corresponding Fire Prevention resources. The records fees listed above do not establish the charges for permits or construction review.
Careers and Youth Programs
Firefighter Recruitment
The firefighter recruitment page provides information about Fire Fighter Trainee and Fire Fighter Trainee (Paramedic) examinations.
Read the current examination announcement for qualifications, application dates, and required steps. A Job Interest Card requests notifications about opportunities; it does not replace an application for an advertised position.
For recruitment information, email Fire-Recruitment@fire.lacounty.gov.
Explorer and Other Career Pathways
The department's Explorer program introduces young people to fire and emergency medical services through mentoring, training, education, community service, and career development.
The department website also provides lifeguard recruitment and other career pathway resources for youth and adults. Review the requirements for the specific program or position you want to pursue.
