How do I send money to someone in Los Angeles County jail?
Confirm the person's identity and booking number, then use the deposit service linked by LASD. The department's online deposit announcement identifies Access Corrections as its online deposit provider. Review the LASD Custody deposit instructions and follow the designated service link.
Older pages may still show the notice that online deposits stopped in 2015; use LASD's later deposit announcement and current service instructions to determine available options.
Independent information: This website is not affiliated with LASD or Access Corrections. We do not accept deposits, collect payment details, manage inmate accounts, or process refunds.
Confirm the Recipient Before Paying
Use the LASD Inmate Information Center to check the person's name, booking number, and current facility. For location or booking-number assistance, call 213-473-6100.
Have the following ready:
- The person's full name and booking number.
- The current holding agency and facility.
- Your contact information and residential address.
- A payment method accepted by the selected service.
- The amount you intend to deposit.
Compare the available identifying details before authorizing payment. A matching name alone does not establish that you selected the correct recipient, and a court case number is different from a booking number.
If the person is not listed, see what to do when someone does not appear in the inmate search. Do not select a similar name or another person's account to complete a payment.
These instructions concern LASD custody. A city jail, another county, state prison, federal facility, or juvenile facility may use a different provider and deposit process.
Choose the Appropriate Deposit Method
| Method | Where to start | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Online deposit | Access Corrections through the LASD deposit instructions. | Agency, recipient, address requirements, accepted payment, and transaction terms. |
| Mail deposit | Inmate Regulation to Deposit Money on the LASD Custody page. | Accepted payment instrument, payee details, amount limit, and designated mailing address. |
| Cash kiosk | The kiosk information in the LASD deposit instructions. | Location, access hours, identification, and available service. |
| Cashier transaction | The responsible inmate cashier's office. | Whether the office handles your deposit, accepted payment, identification, and hours. |
Follow the instructions for the method selected. Online deposits, mailed payments, and cashier services may have different requirements.
Make an Online Deposit Through Access Corrections
Begin with the LASD deposit announcement or its current deposit instructions, then open Access Corrections.
- Create or access your account. Follow the provider's registration and verification instructions.
- Select the agency. Confirm that you are sending to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department account offered by the service.
- Verify the recipient. Compare the name and booking details with the information you confirmed.
- Enter the deposit amount. Follow any restrictions displayed for the recipient and agency.
- Review before payment. Check the recipient, deposit amount, total charge, billing information, and payment terms.
- Submit once and keep the receipt. Save the transaction number and review the resulting status.
Address and Payment Requirements
LASD requires a valid residential address and does not accept P.O. box addresses for this service. The Access Corrections help page for LASD also explains that the account address must match the billing address associated with the payment card.
If your account uses a P.O. box or you cannot update the required address, contact Access Corrections at 866-345-1884 before attempting another transaction.
Use a payment method offered for LASD by the provider. Do not assume every prepaid card, benefits card, payment app, or method accepted elsewhere is eligible.
Follow the Separate Mail or In-Person Instructions
Sending a Deposit by Mail
On the LASD Custody page, find Inmate Regulation to Deposit Money and read the requirements before purchasing a payment instrument.
The published mail instructions list a $200 maximum and require the payment to identify the inmate by name and booking number. For deposits from within California, they list a certified bank cashier's check or United States Postal Money Order; for deposits from other states, they list United States Postal Money Orders only. Confirm the current requirements and mailing destination before purchasing or sending payment.
Do not mail cash or assume a personal check is accepted. Keep the purchase receipt and payment instrument details for tracking.
Use the specified payee and mailing address. LASD's direct-mail process and any separate provider mail-payment service may have different payees, forms, and addresses; do not combine their instructions.
Using a Kiosk or Cashier
LASD's deposit instructions identify a cash kiosk at the Pitchess Detention Center Visiting Center and cashier services at designated locations. Confirm access hours, service availability, accepted payment, and identification requirements before traveling.
Not every jail lobby or visiting window accepts deposits. Use the authorized location and process rather than handing money to the incarcerated person during a visit.
Check Fees, Limits and Processing
A provider service fee may apply. Review the amount credited to the recipient and the total charged to you before authorizing payment.
Check the selected method's transaction limits and LASD's account restrictions. A maximum for one payment is different from a maximum account balance, and eligibility may depend on funds already held. If an amount is refused, ask the provider or cashier which restriction applies rather than splitting payments to bypass it.
Payment authorization, processing, and posting to the inmate's account are different stages. Follow the transaction status and processing guidance supplied by the responsible service; a card charge alone does not establish that funds are available for use.
Mail and cashier handling times may differ from online processing. Do not assume immediate credit or a guaranteed commissary purchase by a particular date.
Resolve Payment Problems Through the Responsible Service
Online Transactions, Errors and Refunds
If a payment fails, the screen freezes, or its status is unclear, review the receipt and transaction history before submitting another payment. Check whether a transaction was created and retain the exact error message.
Contact Access Corrections at 866-345-1884 for provider transaction questions. Have the recipient's identifying information, transaction number, date, and amount available. Explain whether the issue involves a failed payment, duplicate charge, wrong recipient, incorrect amount, or refund request.
Ask which correction, cancellation, or refund terms apply. Do not assume a completed deposit can be reversed or its service fee refunded. Provide payment details only through the provider's verified support process.
Mailed Deposits and Custody Changes
If a mailed deposit has not been credited, keep the payment instrument receipt, recipient details, mailing date, and delivery information. Ask the responsible cashier about receipt and processing, and contact the instrument's issuer about tracking when appropriate.
The LASD Custody page lists 213-893-5875 for male inmate deposit questions and 323-568-4535 for female inmate deposit questions. Confirm current routing in the official instructions.
If the person was transferred or released, check the current custody status and contact the provider or cashier before sending more money. Ask how pending payments or remaining funds will be handled; do not assume they automatically follow a transfer or return to the sender.
An inmate-account deposit, telephone-account payment, care-package order, and bail payment are separate transactions. Confirm the intended service before paying. For other custody services and official entry points, see our County Jail page.
Deposit methods, fees, limits, and provider arrangements may change. Follow current LASD and provider instructions and direct transaction questions to the responsible service. Payments, account details, and messages submitted to this website do not reach LASD or Access Corrections.
